Our belief system

EdgePoint was founded because we believed end investors deserved to be put first by their mutual fund companies.

From our conversations with investors and their advisors, we saw an opportunity in the marketplace for a company like EdgePoint – one that:

  • puts investors at the forefront of all business decisions;

  • believes in direct and timely communication;

  • takes a stand against costly product structures;

  • invests its own money in its products alongside its investment partners;

  • places high value on unrivalled service;

  • uses investment results and not asset growth as its benchmark for achievement;

  • focuses on being a valued partner to a few versus everything to everybody.

For all of these reasons, we believe we offer the “more” you’re looking for from the people you entrust to build your wealth.

The value of advice

Reaching financial goals is hard enough especially in an industry that’s not always looking out for the investor. That's why we believe it's important to work with a financial advisor.

We believe that investors should seek out professional financial advice. A skilled and principled advisor can be your best counsellor, teacher and strategist. Besides advising you on investments suited to your individual situation and tolerance for risk, their role can entail retirement planning, budgeting, managing tax and estate issues, and even providing guidance on business succession.

Most of all your advisor can serve as your rock, there to help you manage your emotions. Their top priority is to keep you from unduly separating yourself from your hard-earned money, especially when you’re panicked because your portfolio seems to be performing poorly or overly exuberant when it’s been shooting straight up.

There are thousands of advisors in Canada, and we only partner with a small percentage of them. Our ideal advisors:

  • are more focused on getting their clients to their financial goals and less focused on short-term stuff noise

  • have convictions and invest behind them

  • work within a narrow emotional band

  • understand emotional biases
